Steps to Repair an Exhaust Fan
An exhaust fan is important because it will rid your bathroom of any moisture. Steam from a shower can build up in your bathroom eventually leading to mold growth, but you can avoid this with a working exhaust fan. If yours is broken then you may need to replace the fan motor; utilize this repair guide to get it working again.
Step 1: Just as always, the first step before doing anything is to turn off the power. Head to the breaker box and shut off that specific circuit.
Step 2: Open the exhaust fan up by removing the cover grille. While the grille is off, give the entire unit a good cleaning because there will most likely be a buildup of dust.
Step 3: Inside of the fan there should be a model number that you will need so you can order the replacement fan motor. Call up your local appliance parts dealer and give them this number or head online to search for it.
Step 4: You can now disconnect the fan itself from its power source. Move this fan out of the way so you can access the motor.
Step 5: Remove the screws from the motor plate to expose the blower and motor. Once you move the blower out of the way, you can finally replace the fan motor.
Step 6: Take out the old fan motor and install the new one. Be sure to re-connect everything in the correct place and order. Once everything has been put back in place, turn the power back on and turn it on.
