Steps to Replace a Ceiling Light

Remodeling a room can give a breath of fresh air to an old house. Do away
with your old light fixtures and add something that will compliment the
look of the new room. In order to replace your fixtures, follow this quick
step guide.

Step 1: Like all electrical jobs, the first step is to always shut off the power.
In the ceiling box where the wires are located, wires from other circuits
may exist here. So shutting off the circuit for this room may not be enough.
To be completely sure, you can either test the wires with a circuit tester
or shut down the entire house.

Step 2: Climb up to the light fixture, remove the light bulb cover, and unscrew
the light bulbs.

Step 3: You can now begin to unscrew the light fixture from the ceiling. Don't
pull on the fixture or let it drop because it will be attached to the
wires from the electrical box.

Step 4: There should be three wires that are attached to the fixture. Remove the
black wire, white wire, and the green ground wire.

Step 5: Grab your all new light fixture and begin attaching it to the wires from
the electrical box. You can now screw the new light fixture into the ceiling
onto the mounting strap.

Step 6: Screw in the light bulbs and place the light cover onto the fixture. Head
over to the breaker box and turn the power back on. Test the light to
make sure that it works before cleaning up.
