Save Money With Ceiling Fans

Keeping your air conditioner on 68 degrees all day and night is possible, but who has the money to just throw away like that? Instead of keeping the A/C unit on low all summer, utilize your ceiling fans to your advantage. Otherwise, you'll be paying a fortune at the beginning of the month!

Save Energy

According to the United States Energy Information Administration, air conditioning accounts for 25 percent of all home energy consumption. Using your A/C less will reflect greatly in your monthly bills, especially since it only costs roughly one penny per hour to operate a ceiling fan. You don't have to turn off your air conditioning for hours at a time, just give it a break here and there and keep the temperature in the mid 70-degree range.

Wind-Chill Effect

It's super important to know that having the ceiling fan on won't actually lower the temperature of the room. Fans actually create a sensation known as the wind-chill effect that will cool down your skin, but not the room itself. A room that's in the mid-70s with the ceiling fan on can feel just as cool and relaxing as a room in the high 60s. Just remember to turn off the fan when you leave the room.

Lessons to Live By

Turn on fans when you're in the room, but turn them off when you leave.
When the ceiling fan is on, you can raise the temperature on the thermostat by 4 degrees without a change in comfort.

The real comfort you'll feel is not from the A/C unit or ceiling fan, but when you open your energy bill to find out how low it is!
