How a Programmable Thermostat Can Lower Your Energy Bills

Programmable Thermostat

Have you been trying to find ways to lower your energy bills, but nothing seems to work? Yelling at everyone to turn the lights off when they’re not in the room can only go so far. For a surefire way to lower your monthly bills, all you have to do is switch out your old thermostat for a programmable one.

Old and Inaccurate
Is your current thermostat from the early 90s? Does your significant other keep saying it works just fine? News flash: It's not just fine! An older thermostat might still work, but its accuracy isn't what it used to be. Thermostats that aren't from the most recent decade can oftentimes read inaccurately which will cause your HVAC system to turn on when it isn't needed or long after it is needed.

There's no reason to pay for your HVAC system to heat or cool your home when you're not even home. Having a programmable thermostat will allow you to set certain temperatures during specific times of the day. For example, you can set a higher temperature in the spring and summer while you're at work, but then have it set to a lower temperature for the time you usually leave work. This way you'll have a cooled home by the time you walk in the door!

Work Smart, Not Hard
There's the programmable thermostat and then there's the more advanced version known as the smart thermostat. Rather than setting the temperatures on the thermostat before you leave the house, you can control everything right from your phone. Let's say you decide to go out for dinner after work, you'll be able to set the temperature later on when you finally head home. Now you will be able to make adjustments on the fly rather than sticking to your usual presets.

Being able to have better control of your HVAC system via a programmable thermostat can have a significant impact on your monthly energy bills.
