HEPA Filters Will Help You Survive Allergy Season

Allergy season might be the worst time of the year for those who suffer from springtime allergies.

Between all of the sneezing, runny noses, watery eyes, and general lethargy — these next couple of weeks will be a misery for many.

There’s not much you can do when you’re outside (other than medication), but you shouldn’t have to put up with it when you’re inside of your own home.

This is where HEPA filters come into play.

What Are HEPA Filters?

Those with central heating and cooling systems know they must replace their air filters roughly every other month. Rather than purchasing standard filters, those who suffer from allergies should purchase HEPA (high-efficiency particulate air) filters.

This mechanical air filter has a finer mesh filter than standard filters, which means there will be less harmful particles floating around the air. This includes pollen, dust mites, pet dander, finer dust, and many other allergens.

Opting to use HEPA air filters will help significantly lower the number of allergens that will rile up your allergies. This will allow you to be more comfortable whilst in your home during allergy season. Even when allergy season ends, this type of air filter is recommended to help keep a higher quality of air within the home.

Other Actions You Should Take

In addition to adding HEPA filters to your home’s HVAC system, there's a long list of other actions and chores that will assist in lowering the number of allergens in your home.

  • Dust the house weekly with a microfiber cloth (before vacuuming).

  • Sweep wooden floors on a weekly basis

  • Vacuum carpets on a weekly basis (sometimes twice per week during allergy season) and consider adding a HEPA filter to the vacuum

  • Take shoes off before entering the house

  • Wash bedding on a weekly basis

  • Keep pets off of furniture if you do let them outside (where they’ll be exposed to springtime allergens)

  • Have your ducts cleaned of built-up dust and allergens if it’s been more than a few years

There’s no reason you should have to suffer from allergies while you’re trying to relax inside of your own home.
