Why Are My Light Bulbs Burning Out So Quickly?

Have you ever gone to turn on a light in a room but been left in the dark no matter how many times you flip the switch? If you know the light bulb is on the newer side, you can get frustrated knowing that it shouldn’t give you issues so quickly.

If you find that your lightbulbs are failing sooner than they should, you should look into why they’re burning out so quickly.

Your Home has High Voltage

If your home has too high of voltage, it will pump more electricity than necessary to your light bulbs. If they consistently receive more voltage than they need — and often can handle — your light bulbs will burn out much faster. An electrician can determine if you have high voltage and take measures to lower it.

You’re Buying Inefficient Bulbs

Not all light bulbs are made equally. Traditional halogen bulbs & CFL’s don’t last nearly as long as LED bulbs do. Not only does that mean you’ll have to physically replace them more, but it also means you need to spend more money buying those new bulbs.

Your Fixtures Vibrate Too Much

This is most common with ceiling fans. If the fan is loose, it can wobble while it’s on, shaking your light bulb and the filament inside of it, causing the bulb to burn out faster. You should have your lighting fixtures stabilized in order to extend your light bulb’s life.

You Have a Short Circuit

Sometimes, the problem isn’t the bulb at all. Check to see if your circuit tripped or if you have a blown fuse. If that’s the case, you’ll have to have the issue fixed in order to have your light bulbs last longer.
