All About Our Cat Room Design
Lancaster Plumbing Heating Cooling & Electrical is an avid supporter of the Humane League of Lancaster County, a partner of Humane Pennsylvania, which is one of the region’s largest animal welfare organizations. Earlier this year, the organization presented us with the opportunity to sponsor a cat colony at the Humane League of Lancaster County, which is a room shared by a group of cats. With this unique type of sponsorship, we saw the opportunity to make a difference.
The Idea
We weren’t interested in simply putting our logo on a wall and calling it a day — we wanted to create a room where cats waiting to be adopted could truly enjoy and benefit from. After some research, we put our ideas down on paper and presented the project to Humane Pennsylvania. To our delight, the organization was very excited about our vision and quickly gave their approval.
The Design
Most of the design elements were fabricated in-house by Lancaster Plumbing Heating Cooling & Electrical’s technician, Ben Golt, who described being a part of this project as “an honor.” We knew that everything that went into the cat room had to be durable, easy-to-clean, and non-toxic, so all the metal we used was powder-coated since it’s the most durable, non-toxic form of paint.
Our goal for this project was to provide both cats and visitors a bright, colorful environment that was both functional and comfortable, and we were sure to keep in mind that cats love to climb and explore.
One element we couldn’t produce in-house was the solid surface countertop for the food and water bowl table. Local business, Henry H. Ross & Son Inc. graciously donated a Corian product that is durable, non-porous, stain and scratch-resistant— exactly what the cats need!
The Impact
There is nothing more gratifying than giving back to the community we serve (which includes our furry friends) and we are truly honored to have the opportunity to support the efforts of Humane Pennsylvania.
Damon March, Chief Operating Officer of the organization, shared his gratitude, saying “Lancaster Plumbing is so much more than just a corporation. They truly have a heart. Their support of our mission and the work we do every day is a testament to the love and dedication they feel for the people and animals in our community. It means the world to us that they have entrusted us to help animals in need to get their second chance at life. Lancaster Plumbing is a true Community Partner, and Humane Pennsylvania cannot thank you enough for your continued support.”
The Rescue Readers
The Humane League of Lancaster County started a reading program for children ages 4-13 years old that allows younger volunteers to read aloud to the rescue cats. Not only does this help children feel more comfortable reading aloud, but the cats appreciate the company and being read to. You can schedule a reading session in one of the cat rooms by visiting the Humane League’s website.
