Common Signs You Need a Water Softener
Do you have a water softener in your home? For those who don’t, you might be experiencing some problems that can be easily corrected with the installation of one. Here are a few common signs that your home definitely needs a water softener.
Limescale Do all of your appliances and fixtures in your kitchen and bathroom have water stains and mineral deposits on them? This is the most common sign of having hard water, which isn’t the best thing to have. The calcium in this hard water can build up in your water pipes over time which can lead to plumbing problems down the road. So not only does limescale and hard water stains look ugly, but they can slow down your plumbing considerably.
High Water Bills When you have hard water, your pipes have to work harder to push the water through. Pipes that have to work harder will increase your water usage, thus increasing your monthly water bill. First, check with your local water company to find out the hardness of the water in your area. If the water is more towards the harder end of the spectrum, consider installing a water softener. This will surely help lower your monthly water bills.
Colorless Clothing Do your clothes, bed sheets, or towels look less colorful than they did when you first bought them? Do they also feel scratchy to the touch? Washing your linens and clothing in hard water can do that to fabrics. To restore your clothing, add white vinegar or sodium tripolyphosphate to your wash. However, this problem won’t go away until the water becomes softened.
