Here’s Why Your Shower Water Isn’t Hot
Do you always let the shower run first so it can warm up to that perfect temperature you’ve come to know and love? Well, when you do this and nothing but freezing water dispenses, something is clearly wrong. To find out why your shower has no hot water, make sure you…
Check All Faucets
Start your inspection by testing some of the other faucets in your home. Individually turn on each hot water faucet in the house and see if they begin to dispense hot water. If hot water is dispensed but then it turns cool quickly, your water heater burner might need to be repaired. However, if the faucets are working fine, the shower system itself may be to blame.
Fix the Faulty Shower Valve
After years of abuse, shower valves can eventually begin to wear down. The first pieces to go are the O-rings and washers, which will then prevent the shower valve from mixing hot and cold water together (giving you that perfect showering temperature). Simply replace these pieces to allow your shower valve to dispense that hot water you crave each morning!
Perform Some Water Heater Maintenance
- Check to make sure your water heater is at the proper temperature – 120 degrees Fahrenheit.
- For an electric water heater, give it a reset by turning it off for a minute and then turning it back on. You can also reset it by turning the water heater’s designated breaker on and off. Also, check to make sure none of the elements have burned out.
- For older gas water heaters, inspect the dip tube to make sure it’s still in working condition. A dip tube that has been deteriorated may send cold water (that is meant to be heated) to the hot water pipe instead of the burner.
- Determine the age of the water heater. Anything older than 10 to 12 years should be replaced with a newer, more efficient model.
