How to Fix Fallen Recessed Lighting
Recessed lighting is one of the most common types of lighting found in homes. Great for any height of ceiling and good and lighting up any size room, these lights provide a great convenience for any homeowner. However, that’s not to say that they’re not without their flaws.
A common issue that comes along with recessed lighting is the light’s falling from their housing in the ceiling. Luckily, this issue can be solved with a little bit of handy work.
Safety Note
First and foremost, it’s important to remember that electrical work is best (and most safely) done by a trained professional. If you have experience with electrical work, you may be safe in turning off the power and tweaking with a fallen light — but if not, it’s a safer bet to hire an electrician.
Adjust the Trims
After the power to the light has been shut off, look inside the light to find the trims meant to hold the fixture in place. You may be able to fix the light by looping one of the spring through the trim of the light and bending it to form a hook. This will better secure the light. Once you’re sure that the spring is hooked, replace the trim and bulb.
Tighten the Screws
When you look at the inside edge of a recessed light, you should see several screws helping keep the light in place. Try tightening the screws slightly so the light doesn’t hang. If the screws seem damaged or worn, replace them so they can better stay in place.
