How to Fix a Slow Draining Sink
Have you ever been doing the dishes and found yourself grossed out that you have to reach into a basin full of dirty, food-filled water? A slow draining sink is nothing to ignore. For starters, we know how very inconvenient it is to have to the water pool when you’re trying to quickly perform a task at your sink; however, it’s also a sign that you have a slight clog that will likely only get worse over time.
Here are a few things you can do to fix a slow-draining sink and prevent dealing with one in the future.
Use a Zip-It Tool
Head to your local hardware store and pick up a zip-it tool to pull the clog out of your drain. Simply snake the toll down the pipe and it does the work on its own. It’s that easy!
Use a DIY Drain Cleaner
Store-bought drain cleaners are filled with chemicals that can damage your pipes over time. Use baking soda, vinegar, and boiling water to flush your pipes of any build-up that may be causing your sink to drain slowly. Follow these steps to clear the drain:
-
Pour a small amount of boiling water down your drain.
-
Pour ½ cup of baking soda and ½ cup of vinegar down the drain.
-
Wait 10 minutes and finish up with more boiling water.
How to Prevent Slow Draining
Use Drain Traps
A simple, inexpensive drain trap will make a big difference in preventing hair, food, and soap scum from going down your drains in the first place.
Flush Your Drains Regularly
Using that DIY drain cleaner, flush your drains every other month to get rid of any potential build-up.
